Karen's Personal Training Style:

  • Challenging

  • Supportive

  • Fun

On a break from being an English Teacher, Karen began training friends and friends-of-friends in NYC 2011. Karen has always led a physically active life and prioritized her own health, and saw there was a need for helping high-achieving, over-scheduled New Yorkers do the same.

Karen started teaching after work bootcamps, training in private and corporate office gyms, and doing VIP house calls. She became a certified PT (NASM) and turned her passion into my career. But wellness and health are not just about burning calories and lifting weights: Karen aims to take a holistic approach to lifelong fitness by incorporating recovery, mindfulness, habit assessment and change, nutrition, and stress management. To this end, Karen eventually became certified as a yoga teacher (‘13), Health Coach (‘12), Running Coach (‘17), meditation teacher (‘16), and Stretch Therapist (‘19).

Her greatest job satisfaction comes from witnessing clients blow away their own preconceived limitations of their abilities. The joy she gets from being there for someone’s first box jump, pull-up, marathon, headstand, or 2-minute plank is incomparable. But it’s also the little victories in between: running to catch a train without getting out of breath; having the strength to carry two kids and three shopping bags uphill and barely breaking a sweat; sleeping better; feeling less tight and achy; looking forward to workouts, and so many more small wins that add up to more confidence, personal pride, and desire to keep moving forward. This is what keeps us healthy and happy in the long run. Karen believes we are capable of so much more than we think, and she wants to help others realize that for themselves.

I will always encourage you, cheer your accomplishments, show you that you’re capable of more than you think, and offer information and insights to other areas of your life that may be hindering your goals. I will not yell at you, shame you, or push you to do something I’m not 100% confident you can handle. I will not let you use poor form and I will do everything in my power to get you to your goals UN-injured.

Starting or returning to a new fitness plan can feel daunting–but it doesn’t have to be! As your personal trainer, I hope to make the gym–and workouts on your own at home–accessible and doable–so you’ll do them! Most things in life can be made as complicated or simple as you want them to be. For most humans, the easier something is to do, the more likely we are to do it, and actually doing the things is what will create change.
